Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB)

DVB is a calibre which has been set by digital broadcasting using existing satellite, cable, and terrestrial infrastructures. Broadcasting refers to a method of transferring a message to all recipients simultaneously at a time. Since its inception of DVB's around in 1990's, European broadcasters, consumer equipment manufacturers, and regulatory bodies formed the European Launching Group (ELG) to discuss and to launch digital television (DTV) throughout Europe.

A underlying fact of the DVB Project was with the selection of MPEG-2, one of a series of MPEG standards for reducing the audio and video signals. MPEG-2 reduces a single signal from 166 Mb to 5 Mb empower broadcasters to transmit digital signals using existing cable, satellite, and terrestrial systems. The digital formats that use the MPEG-2 stand is SDTV & HDTV Standard definition and High Definition. In standard the picture's quality is more likely or similar to DVD and in High definition it presents 5 times more information to the human eye.

Digital video broadcasting uses Conditional Access (CA) to impede the external piracy. There are several CAS systems available in market nowadays, content providers need to choose which is more adequate to their business according to pricing models. Each and every CAS has their own security model which is based on standards of scrambling and encrypting the data. Oogram Technologies is an innovative solutions provider for Media and Entertainment customer premise equipment to harness the converged power of digital broadcast and communication. Our Set Top Boxes comes with embedded middleware as an application for the subscribers to interact with the set top box to choose their right channel to watch. Oogram is globally increasing with its mark of innovation in 4 countries with 800k subscribers and 12+ models.

DVB- C

There are two generations of Cable standards which is divided in to DVB- C and C2. It is the European consortium standard for the broadcasting and transmission of digital television over cable. This system transmits an MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 family digital audio/digital video stream, using a QAM modulation with channel coding. The standard was first published by the ETSI in 1994, and subsequently became the most widely used transmission system for digital cable television in Europe, Asia and South America.

DVB- T

DVB-T consists of the T and T2 technologies which is the world's most advanced digital terrestrial television (DTT) system, offering more robustness, flexibility and at least 50% more efficiency than any other DTT system. It supports SD, HD, UHD, mobile TV, or any of combination. It is the European standard consortium which helps the broadcasting and transmission of digital television over Terrestrial Antenna.

DVB- S

There are two Generations of the DVB-S standard. Standards are done by ETSI. Which has been divided as DVB-S and S2.

  1. DVB-S Was developed from 1993-1997.
  2. Defined by European Standard EN 300 421.
  3. Just describes the physical link characteristics and the framing. The overload transport stream delivery falls under MPEG-2.
  4. DVB-S2 Was developed in 2003.
  5. Defined by European Standard EN 302 307.
  6. The standard was ratified in March 2005.
  7. Mainly designed to accommodate larger data rates to provide HDVT, Internet access, and data distribution.

  3. H264/AVC MVC, maximum supports 4Kx2K@30fps.
  4. MPEG-4 SP@L0-3,ASP@L0-5 MPEG-1 1080p@60fps.
  5. MPEG-2 SP@ML.
  6. MP@HL 1080p@60fps.

HEVC H.265

Content today is generally produced and transmitted in 8 bit but HEVC take it up to 10 bit, giving a wider colour gamut. This will encourage lot of the content creators to adopt this technology. Even for DTH operators to reduce burden on their costs for transponder space, HEVC content can provide same resolution at about half the size of actual bandwidth. So the 10 megabit AVC content can be reduced to 5 megabit HEVC content, without having any effect on the quality of the content. HD moving to 4K is a multiplier by four and by using the HEVC, this can be halved, and so it’s a multiplier by two.
